A documentary film aiming to end a reliance on interpretation of indigenous people’s lives; Lakota people have a world view.
A documentary film aiming to end a reliance on interpretation of indigenous people’s lives; Lakota people have a world view.
From the beginning of our relationship with visitors to our ancestral lands, as Sicangu Lakota people, we were entrusted to interpreters. Since the 1800’s, most of the indigenous experience and our world view has been collected via film, tape, books and other media in an attempt to create an interpretation of the true Reservation life, or Lakota life in a way familiar to those outside of our insular lands. These interpretations have since the 1800’s failed to solve “the Indian Problem,” and so this film takes a chance at expressing our own conclusions, ideas and solutions.
Highlighting not only dialogues necessary to self-examine our societal issues and norms, but sharing ways to solve these problems within our own communities.
